Edu 301 Teaching Reading 3 Semester Credits

This course focuses on the "how to" methods of teaching children to read at the elementary level. Combining visual, kinesthetic, and auditory approaches with a theoretical framework of how children learn to read, learners will acquire the knowledge and the understanding necessary to teach reading. Learners will discover what reading comprehension and fluency are and why they are an important part of the reading process. They will learn how to assess students' fluency using the qualitative and the quantitative techniques. We will explore different approaches to reading and language development instruction and evaluation in a classroom or homeschool setting.

Spanning American History from 1865 to the present, this class evaluates the events and changes in American culture in light of the founding ideas. Liberty and civil freedoms are themes which are discussed in light of present trends. Special emphasis is made to the period of Reconstruction, the Depression, and the New Deal. The growth of civil government is analyzed.

The heart and philosophy, or worldview, of a people is reflected in their culture. This course examines those cultural and historical perspectives. It is a survey course beginning with the Roman Age and culminating with the contemporary period.

Lit 201 Great Ideas in Literature 3 Semester Credits

This class is one of the distinctive Great Books classes where important works of Literature are read and discussed with the class learning from personal insights as well as from the teacher. The discussion and work of the class focuses on books from 1800 to the present. The Great Books will be the vehicle through which great ideas of civilization are discussed in relation to Biblical truth.
This introductory Biology class introduces students to the variety and abundance of God's living creation. In this overview of the subject, principles of Botany and Zoology are presented. The class includes a lab session and field trips which include microscope work and basic field observation.

Nat. Sci. 303 Introduction to Creation Science 3 Semester Credits

Introduction to Creation Science gives the student a way to understand the realm of science and true Christianity. The student will read and discuss in class the physical sciences, earth sciences, and life sciences in the light of Biblical teaching. Scientific evidence for a young earth is presented. Students will understand the Biblical tenets of Creation and make comparisons and contrasts to the tenets and theory of evolution.
